Interested in a new career that won’t go out of style? The job market continues to grow for those with fiber optics expertise. According to the Bureau of Labor & Statistics, fiber optic careers are growing at a rate of 8 percent annually. Companies are eager to hire these professionals with starting salaries of $50,000 + annually.

Workforce Training at Virginia Highlands Community College is excited to launch our inaugural Certified Fiber Optics Technician course. Students will learn the skills required to install and maintain the “outside plant”, consisting of fiber optic telephone systems and fiber optic line work. Successful students will earn the Certified Fiber Optic Technician credential through the Fiber Optic Association.
