Certified Fiber Optics Technician

Course description

This non-credit 30-hour course, plus online required time for training, prepares a student to acquire knowledge, skills, and ability testing to take the Fiber Optics Association test for Certification Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT). The test is administered at the end of the course. This course prepares a student to acquire skills to become a Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT). Covers structured cabling systems that provide a comprehensive information technology infrastructure. Fiber optic media (also some related copper media) will be studied, installed, and tested via lab exercises that demonstrate the student’s proficiency. The course will emphasize safety practices, essentials of optical transmission, structured cabling standards, cabling standards organizations as well as cabling installation, troubleshooting, termination, splicing testing, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables. A combination of lectures, demonstrations, and Fiber Optic Association’s Fiber University and various on-line resources will provide the basic skills technicians require.
